Big Vision? Hate Goals? Try this!

You have a vision of how you want your life to be.  You’ve watched “The Secret” and read all the manifesting books.  And you want to bring your vision into reality.   But of course your vision can’t suddenly appear all in one go or you’d get overwhelmed and probably sabotage your success.  That’s especially true if your vision is a big one like mine.

You need the clear vision and then you need to take inspired action.  But it’s soooooo dificult to stay focused on your vision and keep taking action that’s in alignment with it.  With so many distractions in our lives like social media, everyone else’s demands, procrastination, perfection – these can all knock you off track and stop you getting to where you want to get to.

Goals are the solution to keeping yourself focused on target to keep taking that inspired action.  Goals are the solutions to keep you doing the things that will make your dreams and vision a reality.

Goal Hatred

But, if you’re anything like me, you HATE goals!  They feel so restrictive, so overly masculine that they take you away from your natural feminine flow. That build up of frustration then brings your whole energy down.  And you know you need your energy up.  Instead of being inspired to take aligned action, resentment and frustration creeps in.  And that can lead to sabotage and endless Candy Crush Saga … (OK, that might just be me?!)

So on the one hand, you need goals to keep you focused and moving towards your vision.  But on the other hand, you feel frustrated by the whole idea of goals.

What on earth do you do?!

The Sneaky Thing About The Word “Goal”

This trouble with goals is going on in your subconscious mind.  Your subconscious mind is your powerhouse.  It’s the part of you that influences your habits, your beliefs, your feelings and your thoughts.  It’s been programmed from an early age to contain a map of the reality that it expects.  It’s also responsible for at least 90% of what you do each day, so it’s pretty important that you learn how to work with it.

Now the crucial thing about the subconscious mind is that it operates in pictures.  When you think of a word, it generates a picture of that word. The picture is part of your map of reality – what you expect life to be like.  Tune in and see what picture you get when you think of a goal.

  • is it a goal in football?
  • is it a target like in archery?
  • is it a dead end or does it flow into something else?
  • does it lead anywhere?

If you have a picture of a goal as a dead-end place that doesn’t connect to anything, doesn’t it make sense that you’d hate goals?  They’re so disconnected from everything else in your reality and they’re particularly disconnected from your vision.

If you have a picture of something like a stepping stone that links up with other stepping stones and leads to your vision – congratulations!  If that’s you’re picture, it’s unlikely that you’ll hate goals.  If you do then that’s OK, it just means there’s something else going on around goals.

The Solution

So the solution is to train your subconscious mind to see goals as more like stepping stones to your dreams and visions.  Let go of the image of them as dead-ends where the momentum stops. And instead see them as milestones or stepping stones that are simply points along a journey.

So take your big vision and break it down into stepping stones.  They can be tiny stepping stones if you feel more comfortable or they can be big stepping stones.  Keep taking the next inspired step and the next until you get to your milestone or stepping stone.  And celebrate getting to it – knowing that your subconscious mind and the universe knows you mean it!
